There's a moment in every scene’s history when a small idea starts to become something bigger. When a gathering of like-minded people begins to take on a life of its own. For Greenville’s growing EDM (Electronic Dance Music) community, that moment has a name, House Affair. What started as a passion for bringing people together around house music has grown into something with a deeper purpose. Creating a space built around the music, the culture, and the community surrounding it.
Brightbell Music sat down with House Affair founders Alex Corven and Zoltan to talk about where the idea began, how their party has evolved, and what sets it apart in Greenville’s nightlife scene.
From La Loca to House Affair
Long before House Affair had its name, Alex and Zoltan were already building something. As Alex explained, "the project began nearly four years ago under a different name, La Loca. It started as a straightforwardly underground night, house and techno for the heads." But somewhere along the way, the founders noticed something. People weren't just showing up to listen. They were showing up to dance, to vibe, and to keep that energy alive long after the lights came up. That discovery reshaped the whole project, and House Affair was born.
Today, Alex describes House Affair as more than a party, "it's a movement built around a shared love of house music, created by two people from opposite sides of the world. I'm from Mexico City, Zoltan is from Hungary, and together we've built House Affair as a home for house music in all its classic forms. Funky, jacking, deep, and everything across the spectrum." The goal, in Alex's words, "is to build a community around pure house music, honoring the roots of the genre even as house continues to evolve."
Not Mainstream. Not Underground. Something In Between.
If you ask Zoltan to place House Affair on the map of EDM, he'll tell you it doesn't sit at either extreme. It's not a commercial, radio-friendly house night, and it's not a strictly underground scene either. It lives comfortably in the middle. That middle ground is intentional. Zoltan explained, "one of the goals of House Affair is to reach people who wouldn't normally consider themselves part of the EDM world, making the party a welcoming entry point rather than an insiders-only club night."
From our point of view that mission matters even more in a city like Greenville, South Carolina. Where as Zoltan pointed out, "there's a real gap in house music culture." Plenty of commercial and mainstream house is out there, but there isn't much of the groovier, back-to-basics sound House Affair is built on. That's the space Alex and Zoltan set out to fill. A party that feels intimate rather than massive, and a sound that reaches back to house music's soulful, groove-driven origins rather than chasing trends.
Why It Matters
House music has always been about more than just a four-on-the-floor beat. It’s about community, letting loose, and connecting with the people around you on the dance floor. That spirit goes all the way back to Chicago warehouses and the disco scene of the late ’70s and early ’80s, and it’s something Alex and Zoltan are bringing into what they’re building with House Affair.
In a scene where “house music” can mean everything from massive festival stages to late-night underground sets, House Affair has found its own lane. It’s rooted in the classic, funky, and soulful side of house while still being welcoming to anyone who wants to come out, dance, and enjoy the music. At the end of the day, it’s pretty simple: real house music, good people, and a dance floor open to anyone willing to move. A love affair with house music, one night at a time.
